Research: Jobs during the 1960s

People in the 1960s also did various jobs like:
1. The swill collector who collects waste from door to door and uses it to feed pigs.

2. Hawkers pushed carts selling varieties of food ranging from snacks to crystal shrimp dumplings.

3. Old Indian nut sellers sold nuts which were in a wide variety. From pistachio nuts to peanuts. They made their own wrappers by folding old newspapers into various shapes and sizes.

4. The 'Kanang Guni' collected old things and newspapers door to door and then brought them for recycling.

5. The Barber in the 1960s is different from the hairdressers now. They set up a shop on their own and work by themselves. Unlike the hairdressing shop now where there are more hairdressers .

  1. Looking at these job descriptions, it seemed that people of the past used to earn very less wages. So was life very hard for them? What kind of housing, clothing, food did the poor used to eat?
