Research: Quality of life in present life

Our Government’s recent position on increasing the size of the population hinges on the premise that Singapore citizens should be able to continue to enjoy a “high quality living environment” in the future. A denser Singapore could still be “livable” and with economic growth comes job growth, good prospects and a high quality of life. Quality of life does not depend on whether the products we use are expensive but on how much we enjoy our life. Safety, spaciousness, mobility, cleanliness, connectivity and equity are the qualities that Mr Lee Kuan Yew stated for a country with quality living.Quality of life should not be the goal of growth, it should be the outcome of a sustainable environment built on livability factors that support the present and future needs of the different sectors of society. After all, it is the many faces of society that make us a distinctive nation with the reputation for being a highly dense, yet highly livable city.

  1. So, do you think that bringing in foreigners is agood way to (as quoted from above) "increasing the size of the population"?

  2. Bringing in foreigners doesn't mean bringing in foreigners. Singapore's government is trying to increase the Singaporean birth rate by motivating child birth among the just married couples through raising awareness via various medias. Think about it: Even Singaporeans are not willing to serve the nation after their education. Instead, they decide to settle in another country even if Singapore has offered them scholarship to study overseas so that they can further their studies and serve Singapore. Should Singapore bann them from doing this?

  3. "Quality of life should not be the goal of growth" so does that mean as long as Singapore's quality of life is good we do not need to grow in population?
